Finding the way to fundraising for private sector organisations

The Programme for Employers Activities will organise a training course in Turin from 19 to 23 January 2009 to inform Employer Organisations (EOs) about possible funding at the level of multilateral and bilateral aid agencies and to learn how to design projects and write them successfully...

The effective utilization of development resources and technical cooperation funds is often hampered by lack of information on what is available in terms of resources/funding, and by a shortage of well trained personnel in the design of projects, the planning and the implementation of projects.

“This situation is regretful in that employers’ organizations may forego an important potential for their further development” says Arnout de Koster, Manager of the Programme for Employers Activities. “On top of it, and even more importantly, the consequence may be that the employers’ organizations may miss important opportunities for policy influence, which, with better knowledge and skills, might be tapped and used for the benefit of their business community and their country. And hence, the fact that they may not succeed in their role of improving the business climate, the delivery of adequate services etc., which is pivotal for the development of good governance and sound economic growth”.

The workshop will provide ad hoc training on the opportunities for resource mobilization for employers, and on ways to be successful in applying to these funds, through well prepared design of development projects, based on the experience of multilateral and bilateral agencies.

This course is open to employers representatives from South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, Swaziland, Botswana and Ghana. It will be an opportunity for employer representatives to learn from and dialogue with experienced experts in Project cycle management and project design as well as representatives from donor agencies.
