Social Dialogue Declaration signed at ITCILO

A workshop organised by the ITCILO resulted on 10 December 2009 with the signing of a joint Declaration by the European Social Partners of the Chemical industry.

Employer Organization and Trade Union leaders from the European chemical sector met in Turin last week for a workshop organised by the ITCILO (ACTEMP and ACTRAV units).

Over 50 social partner representatives discussed ways to jointly improve social dialogue in the sector and to address remaining capacity-building needs of their respective organisations.

The workshop was also an opportunity to hear from International and European level experts what are the challenges facing the industry and the policies put in place in particular by the ILO and the European Union.

In the presence of the Director of the ITCILO Mr Eyraud, high-level representatives of ECEG, The European Chemical Employers' Group, and of EMCEF, the European Mine Chemical and Energy Workers' Federation, signed a Declaration which highlights progress made by their organisations in the framework of capacity-building projects implemented by the ITCILO and reaffirms their committment to strengthening their affiliated organizations in new EU member states and candidate countries.

The Declaration states that the series of training courses and workshops implemented by the ITCILO provided a practical and useful framework for increased cooperation between social partners at national level,  and for a strengthened link between national and European level activities.
